Birdball is starting intersquads this week, and we would love to have you in attendance.
The Eagles plan on scrimmaging
Every Wednesday night roughly at 6:00 PM
Every Friday roughly at 3:30 PM
and, either Saturday or Sunday (depending on the week) at noon.
Birdball has two fall scrimmages, both at Harrington Athletic Village. We'd love to see you on:
October 5: Quinnipiac (first pitch TBD)
October 26: Sacred Heart (first pitch TBD)
Before intersquads start, there have been a few players that have stood out throughout the first 4 weeks of individuals. Individuals are smaller, shorter practices. The players are placed in smaller groups, so there is more hands-on, individualized instruction. These practices include defensive drills, hitting, bullpens, and base-running.
The coaches voted on who has had the best first few weeks, and here are the results.
Top Returners:
Patrick Roche: Pat is back for a grad year for Birdball. He's coming off of a strong showing on the Cape, and the coaching staff is excited that he is fully healthy following last years injury. He's been a leader for Birdball early into this Fall.
Nick Wang: Nick continues to look like the guy who can do damage in the middle of the order. He has improved his already impressive approach and feel for the barrel, making him one of the more complete hitters on the team.
AJ Colarusso: Colarusso has really impressed the coaching staff to this point. He has done a great job of getting the ball into the zone, and he has added a cutter that will help his pitch mix.
Eric Schroeder: Schroeder has been great at leading by example up to this point in the Fall. On the mound, his velocity is slightly up, and he has executed every bullpen he has thrown.
Top Freshmen:
Colin Larson: A left-handed outfielder from Easthampton, MA, Larson has quickly picked up some of Birdball's key offensive principles with the bat and on the bases. With top-of-the-scale speed and impressive strength, Larson has really impressed thus far.
Jacob Burham: The left-handed pitcher from Key West, FL is leading Birdball in strike percentage. He has showed very impressive command of multiple pitches, including two quality off-speed pitches.
Top Transfers:
Josiah Ragsdale: A left-handed outfielder from Iona, Ragsdale's impressive collegiate track record and off-the-charts athleticism make him an excellent addition. His speed/power combo that he showcases adds a layer of danger to Birdball's offense.
Karl Meyer: The right-handed transfer from MIT has impressed with a quality fastball and a wipeout slider. His pitchability and competitiveness have really stood out.
